The bilingual children’s community: a rich and secure learning environment for the youngest children of 2 and 3 years old.

From the age of 2, the children are welcomed in the bilingual Children’s Community where they develop in a very warm environment, furnished for their height, within a small group of about sixteen children.  They benefit from the caring attention of an educator with a diploma from the International Montessori Association (AMI) certified in 0-3 year olds, an English speaking educator and an assistant.  This high level of supervision favors a very individualized approach that makes the children feel very secure.  This allows them to devote all their energy to their own development.  In addition, it is very interesting that from the age of 2, the children thrive in a bilingual French-English environment: thanks to the sensitive language period which extends from 0 to 6 years old, the child is like a sponge and absorbs with disconcerting ease the sounds and the vocabulary.

The language area is essential because we are witnessing a real “language explosion” at this age: children need language to communicate their needs, to explain themselves, to become independent, to learn, to express their thoughts and ideas… The educators will focus on communicating with the child using specific terms, offering vocabulary building activities, reading books to the child every day… in French and in English.

The other two activity areas necessary in the Children’s Community for the enrichment of the child and in the development of his/her autonomy (help me to do it alone) are the Practical Life area and the Sensory area.
